Nomination Forms Will Soon Be Available- EC Boss Discloses

The Electoral Commission boss, Jean Mensa has revealed that nomination forms for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections will soon be available.

At a press conference held in Accra on Monday, 27 July 2020, EC chair Jean Mensa disclosed that the nomination forms will be available on the Electoral Commission’s website.

The online nomination forms will mean that the candidates will not be required to physically pick up forms from the EC’s offices.

Outlining a raft of new policies being rolled out by the election management body ahead of the 7 December 2020 polls, the EC chair said: “In view of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Commission will, for the first time, make nomination forms available on its website”.

“As such, candidates no longer have to come to the Commission to pick up their nomination forms before filing. They can simply visit our website and download the various forms”.

She emphasised: “This will also help to lighten the burden that candidates have to go through to file” while expressing hopes that this initiative will “simplify the arduous filing process”

The EC, however, indicated that it will announce the date for the opening of the nomination process online for both 2020 presidential and parliamentary candidates.

Meanwhile, the EC has said, so far, 11,629,410 Ghanaians have registered for the new voter ID card in the ongoing exercise, as of the end of the fourth phase.

Mrs Jean Mensa said the majority of them are women.
