The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that Gloria Vera Louise, one of the arrested protesters from the Democracy Hub demonstration, was pregnant at the time of her arrest and remand.

Initial reports suggested that Gloria was four months pregnant, but the police have clarified through a statement that medical examinations from independent health facilities confirmed she is not pregnant. The police also emphasized that there were no visible signs of pregnancy during her arrest.

“At no point during the arrest or court proceedings did Gloria or her lawyers inform the police or the court about any pregnancy,” the statement read. To address the public claims, the police took the initiative to conduct medical examinations, both of which confirmed that Gloria is not pregnant.

Additionally, the police charged Grace Asantewaa, another demonstrator, for exposing a child to danger by bringing her to the protest, which is against the Criminal Offences Act.

A total of 54 protesters were arrested during the protests from September 21 to 23.
