The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has intercepted a major cocaine shipment worth over $350 million, seizing approximately 3.3 tonnes of the illicit substance en route to Accra from the Western Region.

Acting on intelligence, NIB officers stopped a tipper truck at Pedu Junction in Cape Coast on March 4, 2025. A search of the vehicle revealed 143 sacks of cocaine hidden beneath sand. The truck, traveling from Takoradi to Weija, was occupied by two suspects who were immediately arrested.

Further investigations on March 8 led officers to a suspect’s residence, where they discovered 13 more sacks and an additional bag of suspected cocaine, bringing the total seizure to 3,319.68 kilograms. Laboratory tests by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Ghana Standards Authority confirmed the consignment’s purity levels ranged between 50% and 70%.

Authorities believe the cocaine entered Ghana via fishing vessels. The two suspects, Isaac Quaicoe and Kenneth Cobbinah, have been remanded in custody and are set to appear in court on April 2, 2025.

Meanwhile, the NIB has identified additional suspects who remain at large and is actively working to bring them to justice.
