Former Auditor General Dominic Yao Domelevo has emphasized the importance of asset declaration for newly sworn-in ministers, stating that they should have declared their assets prior to their swearing-in ceremony on January 22, 2025.
During the event at the Jubilee House in Accra, President John Dramani Mahama urged the new ministers to declare their assets. However, Domelevo contends that this declaration should occur before taking office to enhance transparency and build public trust in the government.
In a recent interview with Joy FM, Domelevo remarked that requiring ministers to declare their assets and liabilities is a crucial step in combating corruption and promoting accountability within Ghana’s political framework. He expressed, “If I were the president, I would have told them, after going through vetting, to declare their assets and liabilities before I swear them in.”
He believes that implementing this straightforward measure could significantly strengthen Ghana’s fight against corruption and establish a more accountable government.
