Netherlands Government Provides 9 Mechanized Boreholes to Communities in Upper West Region

The Netherlands government, through the SNV Netherlands Development Organization’s Healthy Future for All (HF4A) project, has gifted nine mechanized water systems to nine communities in the Nandom Municipality and Lambussie District of Ghana’s Upper West Region.

The solar-powered systems, each capable of supplying about 2,220 gallons of potable water daily, aim to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The facilities include a borehole, a 10,000-liter tank on a six-meter-high platform, and a solar-powered distribution network.

These water systems are expected to significantly boost health services in the region, with connections to local health centers and schools.

The initiative addresses long-standing water accessibility challenges in the area.

SNV’s Country Director, Barbara White Nkoala, emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving livelihoods in Ghana, noting that 21 solar-powered water systems have been built so far, with the recent nine being handed over.

Additionally, SNV has constructed eight toilet blocks and continues efforts to expand water and sanitation infrastructure in health facilities and schools.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, commended SNV for their dedication to sustainable development, highlighting the project as a beacon of hope and an example of what collaboration can achieve.
