Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has authorized the termination of nearly 100 employees at Ghana Post, citing irregularities in their recruitment.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, March 25, the minister explained that the decision is part of an ongoing rationalization effort aimed at streamlining operations within the ministry and its agencies.

He highlighted concerns over an inflated workforce, revealing that 600 employees were recruited after December 7, a period he described as problematic for proper hiring practices.

“If you are a minister and you take over a ministry that has 3,117 staff in the ministry and its agencies and 600 were recruited after December 7, you cannot expect me to come and inherit such a mess, and so the rationalization is ongoing,” he stated.

Sam George confirmed that the latest terminations primarily targeted Ghana Post staff hired post-election, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring efficiency and accountability within the ministry.

“Today, I have authorized the termination of a few more at Ghana Post, almost 100 that were done post-election,” he added.

He assured that the rationalization process would continue to address inefficiencies and maintain proper employment practices in the sector.
