Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to responsible governance, assuring Ghanaians that the party will utilize its two-thirds majority in Parliament to advance meaningful reforms rather than exploit its power.

Speaking on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, during the swearing-in of Ewurabena Aubynn as the new Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Mr. Ayariga highlighted that the NDC now commands 184 seats in Parliament, supported by four independent MPs. This gives the party a commanding lead over the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which holds 86 seats.

“For the first time in a very long while, the NDC holds a two-thirds majority in this House. This gives us the opportunity to push forward transformational reforms that will benefit the nation,” he stated.

Mr. Ayariga reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge during his inauguration that the NDC will not misuse the mandate entrusted to it by the people.

“I want to assure Ghanaians that President Mahama’s words still hold true: this majority will not be abused. We will apply it with care, responsibility, and in a manner that brings progress and fairness to all citizens,” he emphasized.

The Majority Leader also indicated that the NDC is focused on implementing constitutional and institutional changes aimed at strengthening democracy, improving governance, and enhancing the lives of Ghanaians.
