The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has finally yielded to the pressure of party activists to suspend one of its top members, Bernard Allotey Jacobs.
Mr Allotey Jacobs was the party’s immediate past Central regional chairman.
A statement purportedly signed by the NDC’s national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, on May 6, 2020, says Mr Allotey Jacobs was suspended pursuant to Article 46 (1) and 46 (6) and 46 (8) (b) of the Party’s constitution.
The statement says his suspension was based on what it termed“persistent anti-party conduct,” indicating that the decision to suspend him was taken at a National Executive Meeting held on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.
Allotey Jacobs’ suspension, the letter says has been referred to the disciplinary committee of the party for further action.
The immediate past Central regional chairman of the opposition NDC has been on the radar of party activists who are calling for his head.
According to DGN Online sources, the immediate trigger of the suspension was when Chairman Allotey Jacobs, as he is fondly called, said on Peace Fm this morning that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has become a hard nut to crack for the NDC.
He added that the NDC must thus get the few super-intelligent and matured politicians in the party to stand up to the Vice President and not the plethora of cacophonic rebuttals from the communications neophytes anytime Dr. Bawumia speaks.
The NDC had earlier today boycotted the Peace Fm platform citing the presence of Allotey Jacobs.
One of the NDC activists calling on the party leadership to crack the whip on the former Central regional chairman is Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, former Fanteakwa District Chief Executive who indicated on a Facebook post that the party must not drag its feet in dislodging Allotey Jacobs.
“A scrotum that can develop into hernia could be identified from the onset. We have people who are angry with the system but are still sticking to the party. I have no qualms with people who take their party on from time to time to call it’s attention to what is not working.
My worry is with those who are sharpening daggers and giving them to our opponents to stab the NDC party. This election is not any other election. We treat betrayers with kids’ gloves to the chagrin of the fortunes of the party at the polls.
The NDC is used to pampering people too much and this has been our bane. What prevents us from firing the likes of Allotey Jacobs from the NDC? His comments hurt the NDC insidiously”, he wrote.
A day after the post, Mr Ofosu Ampofo struck with the suspension letter.
