The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a stern warning, vowing to do everything in its power to prevent any manipulation of the current limited voter registration process led by Jean Mensah and the Electoral Management Body. The NDC’s National Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, emphasized their determination to thwart any attempts by the Electoral Commission (EC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the process.
In a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Mr. Nketia revealed that NDC members will closely oversee the registration exercise to ensure it remains free from manipulation, despite the party’s ongoing legal action against the EC. He emphasized their readiness and concern for economically disadvantaged registrants who must cover the costs and challenges of voter registration.
The NDC has deployed agents and officers to all 268 district offices of the Electoral Commission nationwide, actively monitoring the registration process. On September 12, 2023, the NDC accused the electoral management body of deliberately making the registration process difficult in their strongholds.
The limited voter registration aims to register more than 1.3 million individuals who have reached voting age since the last registration exercise in 2020. This 21-day registration period began on September 12, 2023, and is scheduled to conclude on October 2, 2023.
