The Central Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended an open invitation to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, encouraging him to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and join their ranks. The NDC’s willingness to welcome Agyapong was highlighted by Prof. Kofi Aseidu, the Central Regional Chairman of the party, in response to recent events following the NPP’s presidential primary on Saturday.
Prof. Aseidu voiced concerns about the NPP’s apparent tendency to employ intimidation tactics, particularly against their own members hailing from the Central Region. He criticized the NPP government for seemingly mobilizing party resources in favor of one presidential primary candidate at the expense of the other three contenders.
In a bid to woo Agyapong, who is considered an influential figure in the Central Region, Prof. Aseidu described him as an “illustrious son” of the region and suggested that he contemplate switching his political allegiance to the NDC.
Additionally, Prof. Aseidu expressed confidence in the NDC’s prospects in the Awutu Senya East Constituency for the upcoming 2024 general elections. He cited incumbent MP Mavis Hawa Koomson’s perceived disconnect with the constituency’s residents as a factor contributing to their optimism.
