Dr Yakubu Azindow, an aspirant in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for Ayawaso East, has appealed to party delegates to support his bid, stressing that he is the only contender yet to receive a government appointment.
In an interview with Citi News, Dr Azindow pointed out that other contestants have benefited from appointments under the current administration. He cited Baba Jamal, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, and Hajia Amina Adams, widow of the late Naser Toure Mahama, who currently serves on several state boards, including the Hajj Board, Sankofa Prestea Mines, and the Lands Commission.
He further noted that another aspirant, who serves as the constituency chairman, is also the national liaison officer for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
According to Dr Azindow, despite his long-standing contributions to the party, he has not been offered any role since the NDC assumed power. He argued that this makes him deserving of the opportunity to represent the party in the upcoming by-election.
“I believe I should be given a chance. Among all those contesting, I am the only one who has not been placed anywhere since we came to power, despite my commitment and contributions to the party,” he said.
Dr Azindow described himself as the strongest candidate to secure victory for the NDC in the March 3 by-election and urged delegates to rally behind his candidature.
