Abraham Ahiabu, the Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akatsi North, has denied reports alleging his arrest and investigation regarding intercepted dummy ballot papers.
On December 5, 2024, the Ghana Immigration Service announced the interception of three booklets of dummy ballot papers, totaling 3,000 sheets, at Xevi, an unapproved route near the Ave Havi area. The materials were reportedly being transported to Togo.
According to the Immigration Service, Mr. Ahiabu was handed over to the Ghana Police Service, while the seized materials were sent to the Akatsi North District Electoral Commission for verification.
Responding to the claims, Mr. Ahiabu stated that although he was questioned by the police, he is not under investigation for any offense. He dismissed the Immigration Service’s statement, describing it as a ploy to rationalize border closures in the Volta Region ahead of the December 7 elections.
The incident has sparked controversy, with political stakeholders calling for transparency and a swift resolution to maintain electoral integrity.
