The National Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has issued a fiery call to action, urging Ghanaians to rise against what he describes as President John Dramani Mahama’s “evil agenda” targeting the judiciary.
In a Facebook post on, he alleged that the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo is part of a broader political scheme orchestrated by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fulfill a promise made before the 2024 elections.
“This constitutional coup d’état to remove the head of the judiciary must be resisted by all well-meaning Ghanaians in solemn fidelity to the constitution and our democracy,” he stated.
He called on citizens to not remain silent in the face of what he termed an abuse of constitutional provisions cloaked in legality.
“The time to SPEAK UP, PROTEST, AGITATE, AND DEMONSTRATE against this violent political agenda clothed in constitutional garment is NOW. Don’t be indifferent. Be a Citizen,” the post read.
His comments come amid growing tension following the President’s decision to suspend the Chief Justice after a prima facie case was established from three petitions.
Though constitutional procedures were allegedly followed, critics argue the move is politically motivated and threatens the independence of the judiciary.
