NAM 1 Threatens to Retrieve His GH₵2.5 Million from Police

Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM 1, the embattled Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, has asserted his intention to reclaim his GH₵2.5 million from the Ghana Police Service. He insists that the police were not authorized to deposit the funds with the Bank of Ghana as they did.

In an interview with Starr FM, NAM 1 clarified that the initial purpose of involving the police was to secure the funds, not to have them deposited with the central bank. He explained, “The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money.”

Expressing his surprise at the money being held by the Bank of Ghana, Nana Appiah Mensah vowed to approach the police and request the return of the funds, as it contradicted their original arrangement.

On October 20, 2023, the police received GH₵2.5 million from NAM 1 following advice from the Office of the Attorney-General. This move was part of ongoing investigations into complaints lodged by some customers of Menzgold and Brew Marketing Consult Limited, presently before the Accra High Court against Nana Appiah Mensah.

In a statement released on October 24, the Police administration disclosed that the GH₵2.5 million had been deposited into the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG), earmarked for the Court’s attention. The police clarified that the disbursement of the funds would be subject to the court’s decision.
