Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, has emerged as the Member of Parliament-elect for Awutu Senya East, unseating incumbent MP Mavis Hawa Koomson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Naa Koryoo secured a total of 50,886 votes, surpassing Hawa Koomson’s 46,638 votes in the fiercely contested constituency. Her victory marks a significant achievement for the NDC in a constituency often regarded as a stronghold of competitive electoral battles.
The success of Naa Koryoo’s campaign is attributed to her focus on addressing local challenges and her promise of development for the constituency. Her message resonated with voters, leading to a decisive win.
Speaking after her victory, Naa Koryoo expressed gratitude to her supporters and vowed to bring transformative changes to the constituency. “It has been a hard-fought win for me. Kasoa is now free and will see development under my watch,” she declared.
Her triumph adds to the broader gains made by the NDC in the 2024 general elections, solidifying their position in Parliament and boosting the party’s momentum.
The announcement of her victory was met with jubilant celebrations. A massive crowd of NDC supporters gathered at the forecourt of the Central East Regional Police Command in anticipation of the final results, marking the moment with chants and cheers.
Naa Koryoo’s win signals a shift in the political landscape of Awutu Senya East and raises expectations for her leadership in the coming years.
