The woman at the centre of the Takoradi kidnapping and fake pregnancy, Josephine Panyin Mensah has made fresh revelations about her accomplice.
According to Josephine, her mother, Agnes Essel knew about her fake pregnancy all along to fool her husband and also to get him to treat her well.
A report filed by StarrNews indicated that Josephine is on record saying she really got pregnant for four months but lost the pregnancy in the process and could not bring herself to telling her husband about it.
She added that during the period of her real pregnancy her husband gave her extra care, love and attention that she did not want to lose it.
It was at that point she claimed to have bought a silicone belly to demonstrate that the lost pregnancy was still intact for fear of losing her marriage.
She told the medical and investigation team that all this while she had given her husband, the people around her, and her neighbours the false impression that she was pregnant.
Josephine said she always covered her fake pregnancy with a cloth anytime they had sexual intercourse within the early stages of her fake pregnancy.
When she started feeling the pressure after nine months of carrying her baby to term, about when exactly she would deliver, she had to fake her kidnapping.
Unbeknownst to Josephine, she least expected her fake kidnapping to attract national attention as it did.
She is allegedly reported to have gone into hiding at Agona Nkwanta but did not know her fake kidnapping could receive such attention from the country.
Meanwhile, Josephine’s husband, Michael Simmons, and her mother, Agnes Essel, were arrested as accomplices.
3news.com reported that the husband and his mother-in-law were suspected to have aided Josephine in faking her kidnap. They were arrested alongside Josephine to aid the police in investigating the matter.
Their arrest was reportedly confirmed by Justice Acquah, an aide to the Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah.
He further revealed that while the woman, claimed to have been kidnapped, the police tapped her phone and realised she occasionally switched the phone on and spoke to her mother and switched it back off.
