Mohammed Kudus to Captain Black Stars in AFCON Qualifier Against Sudan

Ghana coach Otto Addo has announced that Mohammed Kudus will captain the Black Stars in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan. The match, set for Thursday, October 10, 2024, will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium at 16:00 GMT.

Kudus, a forward for West Ham United, steps into the captain’s role in the absence of Andre Ayew. Thomas Partey, who had been filling in as captain, is unavailable due to medical reasons, while second deputy captain Richard Ofori has been out of the squad since the 2023 AFCON. Despite Jordan Ayew being the most experienced player, Kudus will lead the team onto the pitch.

Since his debut in 2019, Kudus has scored 11 goals in 36 appearances for the Black Stars. Ghana will be hoping for a win after a tough start to their AFCON qualifying campaign, which included a 1-0 loss to Angola and a 1-1 draw against Niger. The return leg against Sudan is scheduled for Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Jediane.
