The Ministry of Railways Development, along with its agencies, the Ghana Railway Development Authority, and the Ghana Railway Company Ltd, in collaboration with officials and engineers from Pesa Bydgoszcz SA, the Polish manufacturer of the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) 001, have issued a statement regarding an incident that occurred during the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of the new DMU on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line.
The incident took place today at approximately 12:10 pm on Thursday, 18th April 2024, around Km 76+100. During the test, the DMU encountered a stationary vehicle positioned across the rail track as it approached the curve at Km 76+100.
Despite the immediate application of the emergency braking system, the train was unable to stop before colliding with the vehicle.
Fortunately, the vehicle was unmanned, and the location where it was found is not designated as an authorized level crossing.
There were no injuries reported among the passengers on the train or bystanders. However, there was minor damage to the driver’s cab section of the train.
The incident has been reported to the Police, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
