Military Thwarts Attempted Takeover of GPHA Headquarters by Suspected NDC Supporters

The Ghana Armed Forces successfully foiled an attempted takeover of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) headquarters on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, averting a potential disruption to one of the nation’s critical economic institutions.

Eyewitness reports and videos circulating on social media revealed a group of individuals, believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), gathering aggressively at the entrance of the GPHA premises. The crowd, numbering in dozens, attempted to force their way into the facility.

Military personnel stationed at the site acted swiftly, forming a barrier and using measured force to repel the group. The confrontation, though tense, was brought under control without any reported injuries or significant damage to property.

The incident is part of a broader wave of similar attempted takeovers targeting government institutions since the declaration of John Dramani Mahama as president-elect. Other institutions, such as the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Forestry Commission, and Metro Mass Transit, have also faced similar threats.
