A Ghana Armed Forces officer has been shot and killed in Bawku, Upper East Region, following an attack by unidentified gunmen.
The incident, which has gone viral on social media, reportedly involved the fatal shooting of a warrant officer while he was on foot. This killing has further heightened tensions in the already volatile town, which has been experiencing a wave of violence in recent weeks.
Bawku has been a hotspot for deadly attacks, with civilians and security forces caught in the conflict. In February, a woman and her two daughters were allegedly killed in their home by men in military uniform, worsening the fragile relationship between the military and some residents.
With this latest attack on a soldier, there are growing fears of possible military retaliation, as security forces may intensify operations to track down the perpetrators.
