In a thrilling UEFA Super Cup final held in Warsaw, Real Madrid emerged victorious with a 2-0 win against Atalanta, thanks to goals from Federico Valverde and debutant Kylian Mbappe.
Making his much-anticipated debut, Mbappe initially had a quiet first half, with a notable block by Isak Hien denying him an early goal in the 15th minute. Despite both teams hitting the woodwork in the opening 45 minutes, the score remained level at halftime.
Real Madrid, reigning UEFA Champions League champions, broke the deadlock in the second half when Vinicius Junior showcased his pace and precision, outmaneuvering Atalanta’s Berat Djimsiti before setting up Valverde for an easy finish in the 59th minute.
Mbappe then doubled Madrid’s lead nine minutes later, skillfully lifting the ball into the net following a perfectly threaded pass from Jude Bellingham, securing a dream debut for the French star.
Atalanta had their moments, with Thibaut Courtois making a stunning save to deny Mario Pasalic’s header shortly after halftime. Eder Militao also narrowly avoided an own goal, deflecting a cross onto his own crossbar.
Jude Bellingham was named Player of the Match, assisting Kylian Mbappe for the second goal which led to Real Madrid’s record-breaking sixth UEFA Super Cup trophy.
