Manchester United announced on Monday morning the sacking of manager Erik ten Hag following a series of disappointing performances, with the latest defeat to West Ham leaving the club in 14th place in the Premier League.
The decision to dismiss Ten Hag, who joined United in April 2022, comes after two-and-a-half years of mixed results. During his tenure, Ten Hag secured two domestic trophies for United, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, recently appointed as Ten Hag’s assistant, will step in as interim manager. The club is actively seeking a permanent replacement, with candidates such as former Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, and former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic reportedly under consideration.
The announcement, made at 11:50 am, was simultaneously shared with players and the public, marking the end of Ten Hag’s reign and the start of a new managerial search for Manchester United.
