Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has declared he will not renew the agency’s contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited if sanitation workers continue to receive a monthly salary of GH¢250.
In a Facebook post on April 25, 2025, he criticized the current terms of the contract, labeling them as exploitative and unjust to Ghanaian youth.
“For 7 years, 9 months, the NPP renewed the Zoomlion contract in its current state, paying the Ghanaian youth GH¢250. I promise on my honour as I stand by the grave of my late DAD, NOT to RENEW the contract in its CURRENT STATE or FORM.”
The existing contract, which expired in September 2024, reportedly allocates GH¢850 per sanitation worker monthly, with GH¢600 retained by Zoomlion as management fees and only GH¢250 paid to the workers.
