In a viral video, a thick smoke was spotted emanating from stores adjacent the Georgina Stores Complex close to the Makola Shopping Mall 2.
The fire which is believed to have started around 9:30 am on Monday, July 5, 2021, which raged and destroyed many shops.

Service personnel showed up late because they had no water and fuel
An individual believed to be a witness when fire swept through some parts of the Makola market in Accra has shared how long it took fire tenders to show up to attend to the fire.
An eyewitness speaking to the media narrated how the fire started at the Makola market.
According to him, a small fire caught a banner close the shops, they quickly rushed to fire service office at Tudu which is nearby.
Upon their arrival and complain of the fire to the fire service personnel, they walked with them to confirmed if it was true there was fire.
He added that they said they don’t have water and fuel in their trucks, so they should try other fire service line.
Later on, Korle-bu fire service team arrived in an hour time to help quench the raging fire.
By this time, the fire had already destroyed 3-storey building at Makola.

In reaction, Ghanaian comedian and content creator, SDK wondered how Ghana Police has water to disperse crowd and Ghana Fire Service don’t have water to fight fire.
