John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to uphold and enhance the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy if elected. Speaking with Christian leaders in Kumasi on November 11, Mahama dismissed rumors of his intent to cancel the program as “political gimmicks” meant to mislead the public, reiterating that “Free SHS has come to stay.”
Mahama acknowledged the program’s role in expanding access to education but stressed the need for sustainable funding to maintain and improve its quality. “We must ensure it’s well-funded to improve its quality and keep it going,” he stated.
The NDC leader’s commitment underscores the party’s dedication to preserving Free SHS while addressing current challenges through reliable financial support. This aligns with the NDC’s vision to strengthen educational outcomes and guarantee the program’s longevity for future generations.
