Mahama Pledges to Cancel Betting Tax if Elected in 2024

John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his commitment to abolish taxes on betting and gaming wins if he wins the 2024 elections. Speaking at a campaign event at Bukom Arena in Accra, Mahama highlighted the importance of betting for many young people who rely on it as a source of income in the face of high unemployment.

He acknowledged that the betting tax was introduced as part of conditions tied to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal but argued that the government should seek alternative revenue sources to compensate for the tax’s removal.

Mahama also addressed broader issues affecting the youth, including unemployment, and promised to implement a 24-hour economy to create more job opportunities. He criticized the current administration for its handling of the economy and vowed to recover any embezzled funds under the Akufo-Addo government.
