Mahama Pledges Agro-Processing Zone for Afram Plains

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has outlined plans to transform Afram Plains into a specialized agro-processing zone to boost employment and economic activity.

Speaking at a gathering of chiefs, clergy, and residents at Sakora Park in Donkorkrom on Thursday, November 21, Mahama emphasized the role of local chiefs in facilitating land acquisition for investors.

“We will work with chiefs to secure large portions of litigation-free land. These lands will be equipped with essential infrastructure, including water, electricity, and roads, and allocated to investors—both local and foreign—willing to establish agro-processing factories,” Mahama said.

The proposed factories will operate around the clock, running on shift systems to maximize job creation for the youth.

Additionally, Mahama promised to establish farmers’ service centers in both the southern and northern parts of Afram Plains. These centers will be equipped with 15 tractors each, along with agricultural tools and resources to support farming activities.

Farmers in the region will also benefit from registration initiatives, access to fertilizers, and credit facilities to enhance productivity. Mahama assured that repayment systems would be structured to ease financial burdens on farmers, allowing them to reinvest in their agricultural operations.
