Mahama Demands Removal of Politically Affiliated Polling Officials Ahead of 2024 Election

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama, has called for the immediate removal of individuals with political affiliations from polling station roles within the Electoral Commission (EC) to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming general election.

With just 11 days to the December 7 polls, Mr. Mahama expressed concerns about potential disruptions and biases that could compromise the credibility of the electoral process.

Addressing constituents in Sekondi during his campaign tour of the Western Region, the former president responded to an alleged audio recording suggesting plans to manipulate the elections in Gomoa East.

“I have seen a video from Gomoa East alleging that an NPP MP and members brought a list of 65 people to be included in the election. So if this turns out to be true, how credible will the election be?” he questioned.

Mr. Mahama urged the EC to act swiftly if the claims are verified, emphasizing the need for vigilance as the election date approaches. “I expect that if the EC detects these 65 people, they must immediately remove their names. We need to be vigilant going into the election because there could be collusion between the NPP and the EC, such that your vote could be tampered with,” he said.

The NDC flagbearer further appealed to the EC to ensure a transparent process that inspires confidence among all stakeholders, urging the Commission to uphold neutrality and fairness in its operations.
