Luggage Emitting Smoke Triggers Evacuation at Kotoka International Airport

An evacuation occurred at Kotoka International Airport’s Terminal 3 on Sunday, September 22, after a passenger’s luggage began emitting smoke. The incident happened around 3:27 p.m. at the baggage wrap area, prompting swift action from the Aviation Security Department.

The bag was isolated, and passengers were evacuated in line with the airport’s emergency procedures. The passenger involved has been handed over to the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) for questioning.

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) reminded travelers that carrying batteries in luggage is against International Civil Aviation Regulations. Terminal operations have since returned to normal.
