Kofi Akpaloo, flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to reprint the 2024 presidential ballot papers, citing concerns over the inclusion of the late Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) candidate, Akua Donkor.
At a press conference on Wednesday, November 13, Akpaloo argued that featuring Akua Donkor on the ballot could lead to confusion and potentially affect the election outcome. He reasoned that if a new GFP candidate had been approved, the EC would have reprinted the ballots accordingly.
“Having Akua Donkor’s picture on the ballot paper could create issues. People may vote for her, though she is no longer alive, which complicates the counting process,” he said, emphasizing that a reprint would help maintain electoral integrity.
Akpaloo expressed concerns that votes cast for Donkor could raise disputes, potentially leading losing candidates to question the results. He urged the EC to take action by reissuing ballots without Akua Donkor’s image to avoid misunderstandings and safeguard the credibility of the election process.
