Eric Edem Agbana, the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, has unveiled the Edem Agbana Scholarship Scheme, a transformative initiative aimed at providing financial support to brilliant but needy students in his constituency. The scheme, valued at GHC 1.3 million, has awarded scholarships to 302 tertiary students in its first phase.
During the launch, Agbana pledged to contribute 50% of his monthly salary to sustain the initiative, highlighting his commitment to service beyond politics. “Becoming a Member of Parliament is not just about politics for me; it is a divine mandate to uplift lives,” he stated.
The scholarship scheme places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, with 22 students with special needs receiving full tuition coverage. Additionally, 25 young women pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) have been awarded full scholarships. Three students will also receive laptops to support their academic work.
Addressing guests at the launch in Dzodze, Agbana noted, “This scheme is dedicated to offering vital financial assistance to tertiary students from Ketu North, ensuring that financial challenges do not stand in the way of their educational dreams.”
The program received significant community support, including a GHC 100,000 donation from H.E. Gabriel Kwamegah-Atokple Tanko, the Volta Region’s Council of State representative. Funding for the initiative comes from Agbana’s personal contributions, corporate sponsorships, and community donations.
The Ketu North MP emphasized the importance of maintaining academic excellence, with continued support contingent on strong performance. Looking to the future, Agbana plans to expand the scholarship program to cover professional courses in fields such as medicine, law, and engineering. His vision is to see Ketu North produce some of Ghana’s top professionals within the next decade.
