The University of Machakos is set to pioneer a groundbreaking Witchcraft Degree program, marking a global milestone as the second institution to offer such a course. This initiative aims to tap into local expertise within Machakos County and preserve valuable cultural knowledge.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university has already garnered significant student interest in the four-year program, slated for launch in April 2021 under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The institution intends to utilize local resources to ensure the success of this unique academic venture, pending approval by the University Education Board.
This move echoes a growing trend, with the University of Exeter in the spotlight for its forthcoming Master’s degree in witchcraft, scheduled to commence in September 2024. Emily Selove, an associate professor overseeing the program, highlighted a surge of interest in the historical aspects of witchcraft and magic.
Both initiatives signal a concerted effort to explore and acknowledge cultural practices, aiming to provide academic avenues for students to engage with historical and indigenous knowledge.
