A Kenyan gardener, Hesbon Imbwaka, has surprised many after choosing chickens over luxury cars as his retirement gift from the German Embassy in Nairobi, where he worked for 34 years.

German Ambassador Sebastian Groth had earlier promised to reward Imbwaka with a Mercedes and BMW, sparking widespread reactions online.

However, on August 29, Groth revealed that the gardener instead requested chickens to start a poultry farm, calling it “…the real Luhya-spirit.”

Photos shared by the diplomat showed Imbwaka holding a chicken alongside bags of feed with many Kenyans praising his practicality and humility.

Social media users responded with a mix of humor and admiration, hailing Imbwaka’s loyalty and the Embassy’s gesture.
