Kenya Military Aircraft Crashes in Nairobi Residential Area, Casualties Feared

A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) aircraft, identified as a Cessna Citation 560, crashed on Thursday into a densely populated neighborhood in Githurai, Nairobi, sparking fears of multiple casualties.

According to authorities, the light aircraft had departed from Wilson Airport and was en route to Hargeisa when it lost contact with air traffic control around 12:17 p.m.

Eyewitness footage circulating on social media showed the aircraft engulfed in flames as crowds gathered at the crash site. The crash occurred close to a military installation, allowing nearby personnel to respond quickly and assist in the initial rescue efforts.

Emergency services, including military and police officers, swiftly cordoned off the area to control the crowd and support rescue operations. Firefighters were also deployed to bring the blaze under control.

Githurai 45 Sub-county Police Commander Maurice Odanga confirmed the crash and noted that aviation and security experts were on-site to begin a full investigation into the incident.
