Tensions erupted in Kasoa Kumbe, a suburb of Opeikuma in the Awutu Senya East Municipality, as over 150 residents clashed with police officers and suspected landguards over a forced eviction.

The Central East Regional Police Command reportedly carried out the eviction based on a court ruling in favor of Kwame Baafi, who claims ownership of over 10 acres of land. However, affected residents argue that they were never taken to court and were not served any eviction notice before the operation.

In the ensuing confrontation, homes were locked up, leaving residents stranded.

Nana Okoboban Kwao II, Chief of Gomoa Kumbe, expressed shock at the police’s involvement, questioning the legitimacy of the eviction.

Habib Abdulai, Assemblyman for Kasoa Opeikuma Electoral Area, has called for justice, insisting that the land does not belong to the claimant.

The incident has raised concerns over land disputes and the involvement of landguards in eviction exercises in Kasoa and its surrounding areas.
