Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba, has been banned from football for four years due to doping. The ban comes after Pogba tested positive for testosterone during an exam conducted in September 2023, following Juventus’ game against Udinese. Although Pogba did not play in the match, he was present on the bench.
Despite requesting a counter-analysis of his positive test, the results confirmed the initial findings. Consequently, Italy’s anti-doping prosecutors sought the maximum four-year ban for the World Cup winner. Pogba chose not to enter into a plea bargain with the anti-doping agency, meaning his case will be heard before the country’s anti-doping court.
At 30 years old, the ban effectively ends Pogba’s football career, pending any successful appeal. Despite suggestions of using the lack of intentionality in his actions as a defence, the appeal process remains uncertain. Since the announcement of his positive test, Pogba has not featured in any matches for Juventus.
