
A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in the Juaboso District for allegedly severing the toe of her 9-year-old daughter as punishment for returning home late.
The suspect, identified as Vivian Anto from Sefwi Proso, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations into the disturbing incident, which has shocked residents in the area.
According to a police situational report, the case was reported on April 3, 2026, at about 4:20 p.m. by a relative, Stephen Anto, who alerted authorities to the alleged assault.
Police say the incident occurred earlier that same day at around 9:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly used a pair of scissors to cut off the right index toe of the child, identified as Diana Boakye.
The victim was rushed to the Kofikrom SDA Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be responding well.
Officers who visited the facility confirmed the injury, while the severed toe has been retrieved, documented, and preserved as evidence as part of ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has indicated that the suspect will be arraigned before court after the Easter break.
Authorities say investigations are continuing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
