John Kpikpi, the presidential candidate for the Progressive Alliance Ghana (PAG), has declared his intention to end Ghana’s political duopoly in the 2024 elections.
Speaking at the confirmation ceremony of the party’s national executives and flagbearer, Kpikpi emphasized the growing dissatisfaction among citizens with the failed promises and lack of “transformational leadership” from the two dominant political parties that have ruled since the Fourth Republic’s inception.
He stated that Ghana’s decline in progress began after the overthrow of its first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and criticized successive governments for neglecting the visionary leadership Nkrumah embodied.
Kpikpi pledged to address corruption, weak leadership, and to focus on sectors like agriculture, industrialization, and resource governance.
Regarding agriculture, Kpikpi criticized Ghana’s dependence on food imports despite its fertile land, expressing concern over the country’s $300 million annual expenditure on food imports.
He vowed to implement measures to enhance food security and maximize benefits from the country’s natural resources.
