John Dramani Mahama retains Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his Running Mate for the 2024 Presidential Election

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has announced that he will maintain Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the upcoming 2024 Presidential election. This decision comes after much speculation and anticipation regarding who would fill the role alongside Mahama.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former Education Minister, previously partnered with former President John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 election. Her retention as the running mate appears to have been a popular choice, as her name emerged as the favorite candidate for the position. Other names, including former Chief of Staff to President Mahama, Julius Debrah; economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson; Member of Parliament for Asunafo, Eric Opoku; and retired Police Commissioner, Nathan Kofi Boakye, were rumored to be considered for the position.

The NDC’s leader officially submitted his nomination for running mate to the party’s Council of Elders on February 27, 2024. A statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, explained that the nomination process was conducted in accordance with Article 45 of the NDC Constitution.
