Professor Ransford Yaw Gyampo, a prominent critic of the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC), has shifted his stance, commending the commission for its efforts in saving resources for Ghana.
Speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show, Professor Gyampo acknowledged that his recent conversation with Mrs. Jean Mensa revealed that the EC is actually reducing the cost of elections in the country, contrary to public perception.
He emphasized the importance of holding the EC accountable while cautioning against demonizing the commission.
Professor Gyampo highlighted that many issues could be clarified through simple communication with the EC rather than resorting to condemnation.
Despite his previous criticisms, Professor Gyampo now encourages the EC to improve its relationship with the opposition, listen to their concerns, and adhere strictly to electoral rules for the sake of peace and the conduct of credible elections.
Professor Gyampo’s change in stance comes after seeking clarification from the EC on various matters, including the use of Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) machines, as well as the overall cost of running elections.
