In the absence of Assin North Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson, the High Court in Accra continued its proceedings on Thursday in the ongoing case against him. The court had previously directed the legislator to either physically attend or participate virtually in the trial on November 9, as he had failed to appear on the previous adjourned date.
Accused of perjury, Gyakye Quayson faced the prospect of the trial proceeding without his presence if he failed to adhere to the court’s instructions. Presiding Judge Justice Mary Yanzuh had emphasized that the accused lacked a reasonable justification for his non-attendance.
However, during the proceedings on Thursday, Gyakye Quayson’s legal team, led by Tsatsu Tsikata, informed the court that the MP was in Canada for medical examinations and essential treatment.
