The Ministry for the Interior has announced a revision of the curfew hours imposed on Binduri Township and its surrounding areas, following a spate of deadly attacks, including the killing of two police officers and a civilian who was set ablaze with his motorbike.
Effective immediately, the curfew will run from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., as directed by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council. The decision was enacted under an Executive Instrument as part of efforts to restore calm to the area.
The government has also issued a stern warning to residents, cautioning against violence and urging the Chiefs, Elders, Youth, and all stakeholders to use peaceful and non-violent means to address conflicts in the area.
In addition to the curfew, a total ban has been placed on the possession and transportation of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons. Men wearing smocks — often linked to concealment of weapons — are also prohibited.
Furthermore, the use of motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ is now banned for both men and women within the affected areas. Authorities have warned that anyone found violating these directives will be arrested and prosecuted.
The curfew and accompanying restrictions follow escalating violence believed to be linked to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has now spread to Binduri, raising serious concerns over security and civilian safety.
