
Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has vowed that justice will be served following the tragic killing of Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region.
The late chief, who also held the title of Chief of the Kadi Divisional Area in Binduri, was gunned down by unidentified assailants at his residence near the Asawase F-line community centre on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
Eyewitnesses recounted that two men arrived on a motorbike around 8:40 p.m., one of whom was armed with an AK-47 rifle. The gunman opened fire on the chief before both suspects fled the scene.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 23, Minister Muntaka condemned the attack as a “heinous act” and a grave threat to national peace and security. He assured the public that a full-scale investigation is underway and pledged that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
“I want to assure the family and the people of Ghana that our security agencies are fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this crime are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law,” he stated.
The Interior Minister also called on residents of Asawase and surrounding areas to remain calm and support the investigation by sharing any relevant information with the security agencies.
“We remain resolute in protecting every citizen and upholding the rule of law,” he emphasized.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community in the Ashanti Region, and the broader traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.
