The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has reshuffled several Divisional and District Commanders in galamsey-prone regions—namely Eastern South, Western, and Western North—as part of renewed efforts to tackle illegal mining.
This move marks the first phase of a broader strategy aimed at energizing and holding police leadership accountable in the fight against galamsey.
In a related anti-galamsey operation from April 17–20 in the Samreboi enclave of the Western Region, 47 suspects (including 8 Chinese nationals and 4 women) were arrested. Seized items include 17 excavators, firearms, vehicles, and mining equipment.
Police say further reshuffles and intensified operations are expected in the coming weeks.
