Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, has extended a lifeline to 10-year-old leukemia patient Lisa Laryea, covering over $110,000 in costs for her treatment.
Lisa, a young student whose battle with leukemia gained widespread attention on social media, was flown to South Africa on Sunday, November 24, 2024, aboard an emergency chartered air ambulance. She was accompanied by her mother to receive specialized care at a leading medical facility.
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, known for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes, personally oversaw the travel arrangements at Kotoka International Airport. His Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, noted the businessman’s unyielding dedication to saving lives.
“When we discovered Lisa’s condition on social media, we knew we had to act. Every child deserves a chance at a healthy life. For Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, saving a life outweighs any cost,” Rafik explained.
The medical expenses are estimated at 2 million South African Rand (USD $110,000). Rafik described the meticulous planning involved, including accompanying Lisa from Ridge Hospital to the airport at 3 a.m. for the 6 a.m. flight. Doctors in South Africa were already on standby to begin her treatment immediately upon arrival.
Lisa’s mother, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed her thanks to Mr. Mahama, saying, “We never imagined someone of his stature would show such deep care for our daughter’s health. He has given us the gift of hope, and we are forever grateful.”
