The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has dismissed calls for him to apologize to the Regional Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mark Asomani-Wiafe, for causing his arrest.
The calls for an apology have intensified, with ECG staff staging protests and painting the ECG premises red to press for their demand.
In response, Osei-Mensah stated that he would not apologize for carrying out his duties as the chairman of the Security Council in the region.
He defended his decision to have the police invite Asomani-Wiafe, citing security concerns and incidents related to power issues in the region.
Osei-Mensah highlighted several reasons for his actions, including the removal of bolts and nuts from pylons and ECG’s failure to attend regional Security Council meetings or provide requested information.
He emphasized that his actions were not personal but aimed at ensuring security and government authority in the region.
Regarding the ECG Senior Staff Union’s call for their regional managers to boycott REGSEC meetings until an apology is issued, Osei-Mensah clarified that ECG managers are not members of REGSEC.
He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his security responsibilities and asserted that no one could prevent him from doing so.
