I Will Sign the Anti-LGBTQ Bill if Declared Constitutional – Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to sign the anti-LGBTQ bill into law if the Supreme Court declares it constitutional.

The bill, which has faced delays, is currently awaiting a ruling from the Court. The Supreme Court has chosen to issue its ruling on injunction applications, which seek to prevent the bill from being sent to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for assent, alongside the final judgment.

During a recent media engagement, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to signing the bill promptly if it receives constitutional approval. “The Bill is before the Supreme Court right now, and I think there are certain challenges that have been made to it, arguing that it’s not consistent with the constitution,” he stated.

He further assured, “Once it’s out of the Supreme Court and declared constitutional, signing is automatic. There shouldn’t be any issue. No ifs and no buts; we won’t allow any delay.”
