John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), strongly criticized the current government’s handling of premix fuel distribution, labeling it as politicized. Speaking during his “Building the Ghana We Want” tour in Axim, Western Region, Mahama empathized with local fisherfolk who expressed grievances over the unavailability of premix fuel for their fishing activities.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Mahama accused the ruling government of undermining the work of artisanal fishers, highlighting the contrast between their administration and the previous one. “When we were in power, we established the landing beach committee, open to anyone, ensuring judicious distribution of premix fuel. However, the current situation reveals peak levels of fuel diversion and mismanagement under the NPP government’s politicized distribution,” Mahama lamented.
Assuring his commitment to revitalizing the fisheries sector, Mahama pledged significant reforms should he win the 2024 general elections. “I am confident that by God’s grace, the NDC will triumph in the elections, and I promise substantial improvements to the fisheries sector if elected. I will appoint a more efficient sector minister,” he affirmed.
Furthermore, during his visit to Takoradi, Mahama’s ’24-hour economy’ campaign policy gained strong support from residents, bolstering his campaign momentum.
