Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine has stated that he has not been briefed by National Security regarding allegations that former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, was spying on the central bank.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, March 24, Dr. Ayine emphasized that he cannot confirm or deny the claim.

“From a technical standpoint, I cannot confirm that fact. I haven’t held any conversations with National Security on that specific issue, and I will not dare answer a question on that,” he said.

The allegations were made over the weekend by Retired Colonel Festus Aboagye, who claimed that intelligence reports suggested Dr. Addison had installed electronic surveillance devices in his residence, linking them to the Bank of Ghana for remote monitoring.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points program on Saturday, March 22, Rtd. Col. Aboagye stated that National Security operatives acted on this intelligence when they searched Dr. Addison’s home.

He alleged that the destruction of the former Governor’s CCTV camera was actually the removal of a “monitoring wire” used for surveillance.

According to him, multiple sources confirmed that Dr. Addison had devices wired in his house to monitor activities at the central bank. He argued that such an act amounts to unauthorized surveillance.

“The state has not authorized anybody, including a former BoG Governor, to mount surveillance on the premises of BoG,” he asserted.

Despite these claims, the Attorney-General’s comments suggest that the government has yet to officially verify the allegations.
