Hopeson Adorye Released on GH¢20,000 Bail

The Dansoman Circuit Court in the Greater Accra region has granted bail to Hopeson Adorye, a prominent figure in the Movement for Change (M4C), with bail set at GH¢20,000 and two sureties.

Adorye faces charges of spreading false information.

As part of his bail conditions, Adorye must report to the police station every Monday to aid in ongoing investigations.

His court appearance on Thursday, May 23, 2024, followed his arrest after a May 10, 2024, interview on Accra FM, where he claimed involvement in an incident aimed at intimidating voters in the Volta Region, a stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to benefit the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

During the interview, Adorye allegedly stated, “Before the elections, we detonated dynamite in parts of the Volta Region, which scared many people. After casting my ballot in Tema, I traveled to the Volta Region. Upon inquiring about voter turnout, I found that many did not come out to vote.”

Alan Kyerematen, an Independent Presidential Candidate and leader of the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, visited Adorye in custody before his court appearance.

Former Adentan MP Yaw Buaben Asamoa criticized the arrest as politically motivated.

Kyerematen was accompanied by Boniface Abubakari Saddique, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Kofi Kapito, Alhaji Haruna Tafsiru Warlord, Ken Kuranchie, and other M4C members.

Buaben Asamoa, speaking after the visit, asserted that the charges against Adorye were baseless and unjust.

“Hopeson Adorye is not fleeing Ghana or avoiding his responsibilities because of the false information charges. His prolonged detention suggests political motives, which is unfair,” he said.
